Woke up crazy hungry with an appetite for authentic Mexican food. This restaurant is definitely worth visiting. It's authentic, deliciously full of flavor, and always busy. The employees are also are kind and attentive; they only add to the experience.

This place is like a travel back in time. Great food and friendly staff. This is one of my family's ultimate favorites. I recommend everyone to try it. My father was right to say this is the best place to get Menudo.

I've been coming here since I was a little girl. (Over 30 years) Great place to eat. The owners are super nice people and make you feel welcome. The food is so hearty and tastes so good. Definitely a local favorite. Especially one of mine. The Milanesa plate and the Huevos con Chorizo are my two favorite plates. The Mexican Hot Chocolate is oh soo good!

I’ve been eating at this family restaurant since the early 1990’s. They offer an authentic menu filled with delicious options. I come regularly for the menudo, it tastes as good or better than how my grandmother makes it (don’t tell her i said that). Some may refer to this as a whole in the wall, I refer to it as a hidden gem.

I've been coming here for 25 years. It's the best Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, period. The green enchiladas are to die for. I would pick that as my last meal. The owner is so nice. The potatoes are great too. You just walk out feeling happy and full. It used to be the best kept secret, but it's always busy now, and worth the wait.

5 star experience all around! Food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. Our super friendly waiter Pancho recommended the empanadas with Chile Verde and I have to say it was the best Chile Verde I have ever had. Light and fresh, would highly recommend!! Simple menu but extremely well done. Would visit again!!

Decent Mexican food.

One of the few family owned restaurants with over 49 years of serving excellent traditional Mexican food.

This is good home cooking that has been in Highland Park for years. Everything about the place is dated, the booths, the tables and chairs, the plates, the plastics cups.....so your if your expectations are bougie or hipster, this is not the place for you so please stay away and leave it to the true authentic Mexican food eaters. Been coming here with my family for years, usually 6-10 of us and we never have a problem with service. Is the food served in 5 mins, no but it has never been an hour as others have written, besides our family all like each other. Since there's so many of us, I'm sure we've tried everything and it's all good. The beans are the best and we even order them for all family functions.

I love this place. Great food, great prices, and their menudo is incredible. Apparently the owners are selling the business and the building. Hope whomever buys it keeps everything exactly the same, from the employees to the menu.

This old school Mexcian restaurant is solid. We had good Chile Relleno and Chile Verde here. Old school preparations, good and hot. Inexpensive. Super casual, staff and clientele are low-key.

Good, spicy, mexican food. Always feels like back in my rancho, good food and service.

My favorite restaurant. Huevos Rancheros, eggs cooked medium, no cheese on the beans, please. If you're vegan, it's not impossible, ask Roy what to order (no you won't want the amazing beans). I can't believe La Abeja's closing. I've been eating there since I was a tiny boy girl in boots and sequins. The Abeja is a family. Over the years, the kindness and incredible food has been a place to come home to. Now I'm a middle aged kook in boots and sequins----this is another major era passing but unlike the first and second round of Emo I'll be sad to see it go. It'll be disorienting, as well. The beautiful building is an icon of the city. Thanks to the whole family for staying so long. xo

This place it's amazing for authentic Mexican food in the area.

The food here is FIRE. To be honest though, all I ever get is the chile relleno platter so I can't speak for the other foods they serve. But that chile relleno always hit right! The employees are attentive and respectful i really appreciate how totally unpretentious they are.

Its great to see so many reviews from other folks who like me have been coming here for decades (39 years). As a Los Angeles native in my 60's, I cherish places like La Abeja because they are among the few constants remaining in an ever changing city. I've known 3 generations of Roy's family over the years. Unfortunately I'm kind of stuck on the huevos rancheros and can rarely bring myself to order something different. The home made chili sauce in the little jar on every table is heaven. Hey, the place isn't fancy or hip but an old fashioned homey neighborhood restaurant that satisfies every time. I'm so happy I've been able to enjoy this place, the people and the food for most of my life.

Listen up, this is the Holy Grail of Salsa Verde. This place is a culinary Mecca that deserves monthly pilgrimage. This is some of the best Mexican food in LA.

Definitely hole in a wall but good one at that. First time going in there and entrance door is lil unusual and inside is very homey. Service may not be the fastest but definitely good and no complaints from me. Food quality was pretty good and price is not bad. Will be back for second time around.

I have been going to La Abeja since it opened.It is like going home and eating without doing the cooking only better.The cooks are the best and Roy, his wife Julietta along with all the staff are very warm and friendly.The back ground music is awesome. I believe the DJ is the owners son. We always feel like family.I have never eaten anything I didn't like.La Abeja is a must for breakfast, lunch or dinner.Tell them Virgie and her 3 daughter's (Roxanne, Raquel & Rochelle) sent you.Enjoy

Be patient every plate is made fresh. The MOLE is magnificently delicious. Pork cooked to perfection. Chiles rellenos is a must try. Don't let the old look fool you. food is A+..

Roy's place is a great experience in Northeast LA. An unassuming space with food that hits the spot just right! I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in LA!!

Best Mexican restaurant in LA County

If you want real authentic Mexican food this is the place 3700 North Figueroa Street you must try the steak picado dinner and ask for their homemade green salsa I drink it like if it was soup....lol.. it's a very old school place you can tell by the pics I've been coming here over 17 years now WoW RIGHT it deserves like over 10 Stars there's only room for 5 here!!

Great burritos. They have beef and pork. I was lucky to see the fresh boxes of meat where they are pulling out good fresh meat. The place has a good Vibe to it. The same guy that told me about the kind of food it was even went in the back to help cook, and he's one of the owners or managers I believe. It takes about 20 minutes so if you want call your food in.

FIRST TIME HERE. FOOD TASTED VERY HISPANIC HOMEMADE. QUAINT OLDER ESTABLISHMENT. MENU ITEMS ARE BASIC. NOT TO EXTRAVAGANT. I WAS REALLY HOPING FOR SOME CHILIQUILES. NOT ON THE MENU. ALL GOOD. ATTENTIVE SERVER. ONLY ISSUE WAS IT TOOK LONGER THAN I THOUGHT IT SHOULD TO BE SERVED. TASTE MADE UP FOR IT. I'LL DEFINITELY WILL RETURN.

This is a great restaurant where you have great customer. And they take your order and they prepare it per person it is a very friendly restaurant where you can enjoy with your family and friends. Each dish on the menu is homemade and fresh and made from scratch. I recommend this for your friends and family and you will enjoy.

True hole in a wall. But everything else is good. Poncho is always friendly and great. Food is always consistent and good and price is ok. Especially I love their taco dorado!!

Great place to grab s Mexican breakfast. Had the Bacon and eggs with refried beans and breakfast potato's. Delicious. Was with two former classmates to catch up. La Abeja is a very comfortable restaurant with a very helpful waiter/host who made our visit very enjoyable. on Figueroa Avenue near Cypres Park. A fantastic place for breakfast! Thanks La Abeja crew!
